Garden Fairie finished

The Garden Fairie Doll finished.

She is now on her way to my friend Willow out in California.

The bottom picture is of the back side so you could see the hair.Her hair is very full and so I added a head band to hold it down a bit.Other wise she looked more like a troll,hahaha.She isn't the prettiest thing but she turned out how she turned out.I learned alot from making this doll and I really have to commend those of you who do make ( hand made ) dolls to sell.

Garden Fairy hair and wings

This is just another update on the doll I have been making.She is done now and I still have to get pictures of her finished.But I have been very busy.I made her hair out of a piece of cording that I bought in the fabric department.I had tryed several different ways to make her hair but I didn't like any of them.What I did was to put some tape arond the cord and then cut it in two inch lengths,leaving a little (1/4") next to the tape side.Then on that side I added E-6000 glue and let it dry.Then I removed the tape and unraveled the cording.Then I glued the hair on to the doll head with some more E-6000 till the head was completely covered.Now the wings were made of coarse from the coffee can foil.The pices I used to rub over were a pair of earrings I had found at Wall Mart.I taped them together and the layed the foil over them and rubbed till the patern showed up.Then I turned em over and befor I add the E-6000 glue to the back I colored the inside with the two markers,then filled with the glue to keep the shape and the color showed through.Then when the glue was dry I cut out the wing shape and colored the other side shown in the picture here.

I have been working on Willows doll,the garden faerie I promised her months ago.Her outfit is made out of fleece material.I had to make a pattern for her clothes so I thought I would share with you a tip.My sister in law "Rachael" years ago showed me that if you use a bag from the grocery store(the plastic kind).It is so much better because you can use it over and over because it won't tear like tissue paper.Plus you can pin it on to what you are working on and then remove it and cut out your material.The best part...NO COST and recycling!

Chunky ATC how to summon Fairies

The side with the Fairies on it,I started with the backround.I tore up a printed piece of paper andused a Martha Stewart black ink stamp around the edges.Then glued them back together and added a few stampoligy flower stamps.Then cut out the fairy image and set it on top using a thin spacer so it sticks out slightly and curled the wings a little.I painted the ferns on to both sides and added some lines of high light with a sharpie marker.Then I made the snal for on top out of sculp-epoxy,painted it.Then I added some little circle punch outs around the top.The back side I found a spell to summon fairies and made a page to print out with a font from my computer.Then I burnt the edges and curled em up to look like a old parchment scroll

Golden Dragon ATC [Chunky]

Finally done!

I hope Debbie Warrick like this one.I'm not to sure Barb liked the first one I had made for her.It was the one with the angels but I don't think I decorated it enough.The dragon is painted with gold paint but it is a thin layer and doesn't show up very well in the photos.He is holding a gold metal bead in his front claw.I have two pictures here of the front because I just couldn't get a clear picture.

Hum Red again? Well I don't know what is happening to me but usually I don't pick red as my primary color.I don't wear red because it is soooo bright.But I do like the color as with all colors,what artist doesn't?But red fit the theme of this chunky ATC.I have started this second chunky at least four times.Each time I didn't like the end result.It just wasn't chunky enough.I guess the chunkys can be flat all around but from the ones I have seen,they have bulky stuff added to them.So I finally decided to make this Dragon and wraped him alll the way around the block of wood(2x4)The first picture is a start,I added a silver bead for his eye.Now I have to add the feet and some other final touches,paint ect...I hope I make the deadline of Nov.1st..
I use Sculp Epoxy,it is a two part resin.One is the resin and the other is the hardner.And beleave me it is VERY hard when it dries.You can sand it if need to but I usually smooth it out with water.This stuff is really sticky not like sculpy clay.And you don't have to bake it.It usually hardens in a few minutes of a few hours.So I try to mix up only what I can use,about the size of a bolder marble.You can only buy it from online and a pint cost $25.00 and you need two,one of each.But it lasts a long time.

I made this little magnet to be in the Plaid challenge.You are suposed to make a pumpkin using their products.And it has to be three dimentional.I made him out of sculp-epoxy last night and let him harden.Then I painted him with Plaid folk art orange and yellow paint.The picture below is the pumpkin not painted

This is my first chunky ATC and I hope it qualifies.The sides aren't decorated much but I made the foil embellishments for them.I just never have gotten the jest of decorating in layers and overlaying like the chunky's are supposed to be.

Here are two picture I took from around the area.The top shed picture is from up the road 3-2 miles.I liked it because of the old look it had.Then the other picture on the bottom is from just down the hill in the back woods behind my house.I found it while looking for morel mushrooms.I thought it looked like a indian that had sat down and just stayed right there forever.

I made this little template to share with you.

It is a purse made of paper,or you could make it out of material .

It will fit a few ATC's(It is just a little size larger).And it took only a few minutes to make.Just click on the template photo,then right click and save to your computer.Then print it out and cut.Then fold where the dotted lines are.I didn't add any embellishments or anything fancy.I just wanted to show you how it would look when it was finished.Great gift bag to fill up with Candy or any thing you might want.

Halloween Tags

I've still been playing with making tags.The skull tag is still the same one I showed a picture of a few days back.But I added the fiber yarn and removed the string.It looks a little better.The top tag with the cat woman is made on Vellum paper and the Halloween word on the side is embossed,so it is raised.

I counted up all the comments from the Parctical Magic party and then wrote the numbers on to torn up note book paper,then I put them into my gourd bowl and grabbed a number.Then I added more numbers for my followers,mixed em up amd grabbed out another number.

The two numbers I got were...#8 for the comments and #23 for the followers.Sorry the numbers didn't show on the Pictures I took so I just added the one picture.

Then I went to my dashboard and counted from the first comment to #8.

And Faerie Sage Won! for the note book.

First of all I want you to know it is ~(POISON)~
I have no idea as to where you can find the mandrake.And it has been said in folk lore that to dig it up ,you must not be able to hear it scream, or you would go insane.
There is a long list of uses for this plant,it's powers are for:Protection,fertility,money,love,health.It can be made into a poppet.Mandrake keeps demons away.
So instead of going on about the mandrake.I will tell you of another substitute you might want to use.It is the May Apple,and it is posion also.
Folk names:American Mandrake,Ducks foot,Hog Apple
Gender:Masculine,Planet: mercury,Elemnet:Fire,:powers: money
Generally used to replace the mandrake,it's uses are identical but it is not related.

Rhubarb Tart (scotland)

Rhubarb is thought to insure fidelity in LOVE~~

Pastry crust for a 9" pie
2 lbs.rhubarb,sliced
3/4 cups of sugar
1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
1-2 tablespoons of milk.
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F
Combine the rhubarb,ginger,and sugar.Spread in pastry lined 9" pie pan.Cover with top crust.Pinch the edges together to seal;make slits in the top crust.Brush with the milk.Bake for 8 minutes.Reduce heat to 375 degrees F;bake until juices bubble through the slits,20-25 minutes.Serve warm,covered with sweet cream or serve with ice cream.

Rhurbarb,ruled by Venus,is a excellent food for matters of love and beauty.

This little fellow was hanging out beside my door the other day.He is a little bigger than three inches,including his legs.He disappeared the next night.Maybe it was the tree frog that likes to hand on my window at night eating bugs that got him? Or maybe the small snake (I saw the sheded skin buy the chimney) got him?Well anywhere he went is fine with me as long as he didn't come into my house.The only good thing about a spider being in your house is that it is supposed to mean it will rain.
No I don't know everything,and so a dear friend of mine(Willow) sent me a e-mail to wake me up to what a spider can be.Wow I don't know how I will do it but I have been trying to allow spiders to have a place in my home.Naw I don't have hundreds...but a few have been miss treated once they come in.Like the brown recluse,or the black widow.Or any other BIG spider.I lived out in Jacumba California years ago.And met a old lady named Rose.Rose La More as a matter a fact.Who is she?She was the sister of Louie La More the famous writer of western books.Yep the very same one mentioned in the book Practical magic.Rose is the one who introduced me to the I-ching.A way of throwing three coins and reading a fortune.Rose had a small home.But it was run over with cats,she was a hoarder.She also let thousands of spiders..the long legged kind live in her home.I had mentioned to clean them out for her but she said no.They were special creatures to her,harm none she said.Now I know what she ment.If you would like to know more about the mojo of spiders click on the link in the title of this post.It is facinating to know..and they have tons more mojo information ,a long list of meanings.

Tags stained with Coffee

I Have been blog hopping from the Practical Magic list.This always fun for me seeing what everyone else is up to.I stopped in one blog and darn if I can't remember the name of it.But she was asking if any one knew a good way to make new tags look old and raggedy,because the tea staining she did didn't get them dark enough.One of the comments mentioned they had used instant coffee to stain em.Well I like tags so I thought well I'm not doing anything I will just mix up some of my old mans instant coffee and let some soak.Huh I must be impatient about some processes.but I could see right away that was a waist of time.So I dumped out the coffee and grabbed the tags that were now wet.Crumpled some to make a effect.Then I took a spoon of the instant coffee and a wet 1/2"paint brush.Painted it on and it worked much faster and if you let some of the coffee pieces just lay there they leave the spots like you see.I also burnt the edges of two of them,then did some stamping and added a little color.These weren't for a swap just an experiment.They DO smell like coffee,and I think I will spray them with clear gloss spray paint to keep them from running or smearing on to some thing they shouldn't.

4x4 Gargoyle swap

That commercial where they hit people in the fore head because they could of had a V~8.

Well that is what I felt like when I looked at the 4x4 I had been working on.See I had just glued all my pieces I had cut out to use on the 4x4 background I had prepared,and added the tree branch.When I noticed the background didn't have any sky line...DAHhhh!

So I grabbed some copy paper and just did a quick rub over with a pencil.Then I cut out the copy paper, and used a glue stick.Then add it to some painters tape.Not a good idea because I really could have just used a piece of paper to cover where I didn't want to add the color blue.Any how once it was covered I quickly used Martha Stewart's white stamp pad and then went over that with the turquoise blue.You can't see the glitter gel pins I added to high light the yellow and orange.I tryed to keep this piece flat because Lori the hostess mentioned some of the swappers might want to have books made.

Tiny Coffin swap

The first picture is a picture of two different coffins that could be used to decorate and have fun with.
I will say the pros and cons in my perception, the either or of the two coffins.
If you do a image search for the Death Mints($3.00)you will find several places around the world that Carry's them.This could be a help if your group has people over seas and it should help on the shipping costs.The Death Mints are made of tin material.And is a little bit deeper than the Masonite coffin.Also the lid doesn't have to be attached or the coffin assembled.The bad part of this coffin is the lid has the impression of the Death Mints name on it and if it were to be decorated it would have to be covered over in such a manner for that not to show.
The Masonite coffin you can find at the Retro Cafe'Art Store,owned by~Kristin.
This is the only store you will be able to find the Masioite Casket.She does ship over seas also.I hope the link title at the top of this post will take you to the page where you can order one for your self.Don't forget to shop around because she had alot of unique stuff(including a tiny TINY coffin.
The second picture is what I have made for the swap I am in.The art doll will be on a necklace inside.I'm not sure if I am done with the painting...she looks like I might need to touch her up.I made her out of scupt-epoxy.

May 1st.,2010
I lost my niece Katie,
She was 24 years old and had just lost a unborn child three days before.Kaitie was soo heart broken.I had told her it was not her fault and that God takes the lives of some early so they don't have to suffer here on earth.She understood that and beleave me she knew what suffering was.Katie was like my own daughter,we talked every day even though she was in Ohio and I live down here in Tenn.I won't be able to go to Ohio we don't have the money.
Oh thank you Juliet and Susan...yes I am hurting sooo much.The good news is that my Sister Colleen (Kaities mom)said she will pay for me to be able to come up.But they haven't finished the autopsy yet and I don't know if I can be their or what the heck is going on.I rented a car to go tomorrow morning and till this thursday at 5:30.My son Kainen will be going with me and he has to be back for his job on Friday.If you only knew Katie and how sweet she was...Please PRAY I can be there for her.She deserves my respect.

If you only knew how frustrated all week long I have been trying to get this one 6x6 done.Now tonight it was like putting icing on a cake.The only thing I can think of is I finally changed the Haiku poem.One of the tools I used to make my Haiku is I went to the web site: www.wordcalc.com they had a automatic syllable counter for me to use.So all three Haiku's were made by me.

This is one of the Haiku collages I made for Maggie L's poetry swap.The back round is a shiny gold paper,so it was hard to get a good picture.I made two but the first one I sent I forgot to take a picture of so I hope Maggie will add the picture to the group album and I can snag it from there.I made another one ...
well not quite.I started another one and couldn't get it finished!I tryed every which way but did not like the end and to me it didn't look asian.That was part of the idea Maggie had for the swap.So when I mailed out the first one I stopped at Wall Mart and bought some clear stickers for four dollars.Some of them look promacing but I still think the poem looks sucky on it.It is the picture of the peacock.

Garden Fairie Doll head

Here is what I have been working on for the last week.I'm making a garden fairie for a friend who lives in California.We have been swapping since two years now.Willow likes to make soap and she is darn good at it!So we are swapping soap for a doll.The head is made of a jewelry gourd and I have used sculpt epoxy to make the face and the ears and the neck.I will let you know some more of the process soon.Tomorrow I will be going to town and hope to find some thing to make the hair with.I think I will post the pictures on my picasa photos.I have pictures so far of the begining and will take some more till the end...kind of a tutorial.Ok,I added all the pictures so far on one photo.That should help for now.I did go to Wally world and bought some lions brand yarn for the hair but I now have to figgure out how the style will be.

O.K. I decided to make a Japanese tea room for my match box.And I'm making a tiny (TINY)doll to go along with it.So I used my sculp epoxy for the head and the hands and feet.With wire for the body.Then I used some cotton string and wraped the wire to make the body.Tacky glue is what I used to keep everything in place.The face was pressed into a small sun embelishment..so I kind of cheated on that but cripe the darn thing was sooo small (1/4")

This is the start of my little altered match box.I used to smoke clove cigaretts.And the foil paper inside the pack is what I have saved.Here is the reason why...you can emboss it.It is very thin and to keep it from scratching after I have embossed it,I usually spray it with a few good coats of clear spray enamel paint.Valspar or krylon.

We had a good 5 inches of snow the other day.Not normal for here.We might get a dusting of snow a couple of times a year.And that is usually melted by the end of the day.This view is just around the corner from our house.It takes me about two minutes to walk to the dock.I love fishing from there.I used to go swimming but I'm afraid to now.The lake is filled with cotton mouth snakes and big snappers.

Here is the new blue metal roof we had put on last weekend.I picked the color blue because I thought it would look nice against the blue sky.And besides on our road we have at least ten other neighbors with metal roofs green and red.The bad part about all this was we had to remove the dish DSL and went "with out" internet from Saturday till today.And my Husband and I will be starting to put up a ceiling in the den and bed room.See the new roof was because we sprang a leak.Me and Steve will be putting up the ceiling our selves,LIFE gets in the way!

Halloween Atc Art Doll

This is the start of the scarecrows I chose to make for the Halloween ATC art doll swap I'm having in Valeries group.I couldn't resist using the coffee can foil to make the face.I painted the foil with acrilic paint and then dry brushed it to make it look more like a old weathered corn bag.

Here are two more collages I made on the collage machine..what I like about the computer generated collage maker is that it lets you not only put a collage together.
It allowed you the re-size and change the transparency of the item you have chosen.
The page has a way to save you work or for you to print it out.I wasn't able to do that so I just took pictures with my camera and cropped it.

Here is my Swamp Na Na Fortune
My sewing machine is broken.And so there is no sewing on her.I cut strips of material and ribbons for the skirt and made a loop around a wire tie.Then I put that around her waist.The bats and bells are a symbol of good luck.
So is the monkey bead skull.

These are the charms I made for the Sum Of All ATC's yahoo group I'm in.I made eight charms but both sides are the same,so I made 16 foil pieces and glued them together with E-6000 glue.Then I used bic permanent markers to color them.They are very light weight.Look under the labels listed on the left of my blog and you can see the tutorial I have to show how.

This is the little VooDoo doll I've been working on for a swap in Kas's the dark side group.Not even close to being done yet.I still have to add her dress and all the little money drawing charms that will go on that.The head is made out of a jewelry gourd,and then I used some sculp epox for the face & glasses.The eyes I made out of some small minny magnifying glass pieces I had.This will be a long post so I will add some more latter.

I just love mermaids...who doesn't?
Tess made the one with the long flowing hair.And the top is made out of real sea weed!Deb made the one with the beed bubble top.The little fish and sew weed stuff in the backround is dimentional.Thanks girls this was a great swap,I don't have any mermaids.I have promaced my sister to make one and send to her.But she might not get it till christmas.

Under the sea ATC Art doll

This is the ATC art doll I have made for a trade with Tess and Deb.
I have only made a couple of these art dolls,and I'm not sure if I made it right.
Why because I know the art dolls are suposed to have a brad some where to allow movement.But this one has no movement.But I also know that the art doll can be folded up and so I made this one as a three fold back round.I hope they like it.

This is the other mask I recieved(I made two but will have to add the picture)
This was created by Judy H.Now what is sooo cool about this mask is it looks like it is made out of material.Because it is padded and soft.But it is paper although a soft tissue texture.And Alll that glitter is a pre made paper.I thought it was stamped but no it is all hand cut out and little rinestones added.I love both these masks.You otto see the rest of their art work....Yep it's alll good.

This is a mask I made to swap.It is ATC size and is to be decorated up like the Venetian masks.Yes it was made out of the coffee can foil.Each piece of the mask was made then glued together(9 in all)Now all I have to do is mount it on to a ATC back and add some bright green frayed string(to look like sea weed)

This little bottle was sent to me from Maggie Lind.She was kind enough to offer any one interested in a bottle swap a free bottle to keep for them selfs.This one I decorated with gallery glass to create a stained glass look.Plaid makes this and the liquid lead to go along with it.
Now the dragon fly I made out of skulp epoxie.The color I used was brown to start and then painted it the aqua green.The wings are made of yep you guess it the foil.And then just colored blue with a marker.

I had a wonderful opportunity to have a friends kids over yesterday.Rob and his lady Marla were over for a fish fry.They brought along the three kids.Sidney,Sara,and Jacob.They have seen my art craft room and of coarse the girls wanted to play.So I came up with the idea of making a necklace from the laminate counter pieces.They made some really cute stuff even Jacob.Each made a necklace for there teachers.Darn if I didn't get a picture of em but Sara did also make me a ATC and so here is the picture.I see a future artist here in all three of them.You know they also told me the school they go to doesn't have art class? I was shocked and sadened.

Here are the little piggies I made for the art doll swap.The doll was to be any thing flying.This was my first (ART DOLL).Yes I have made paper dolls but these are just a little different.I looked and asked around for some information on what the rules were,if any.The only rule I know of is the doll must be able to fold up to be the size of an artist trading card.So not being sure I made my little piggies the size of the ATC backround.The wings move and the bottom legs move.The wings were made out of some 2" wide ribbon I had.

This is a tag I made using wax to cover it.I really didn't know what I was doing,no one showed me.I had heard some one mention this technique and thought I would try it.The tag was covered first with a floral patterened type ribbon.Then a lady clip art picture.Then I added some dried flowers I had from last year.I have a small flower press but you could use books to dry them.

We had a slight amount of snow on the 14th of march.The most snow we have had this year is about an inch.And it didn't stay past noon.But the Daffodills were up and this was the picture I got.Just a little snow covering these flowers...Pretty huh.

This is what I use to make my own foil embellishments.I start with a piece of trash.
HAHAHAHA..no really!
This is the seal from the top of a coffee can.Everybody pulls them off and throws them away.
They are great to make all kinds of stuff out of.You can just lay the foil down on a mouse pad and draw on it and then color it with markers.
Write some words on it,DOODLE.
And then you can take it one step further and do this easy technique and make bunches of free fun and in your own style pieces of art.

Note: these pieces of foil you can find also in...peanut cans,
sour cream(dasiy brand),And in the inside of dried coffee creamer( brand Coffee Mate large)

After putting your embellishment (or what ever object you are using to make your imprint of)under the foil.Use the back of your finger nail to just rub the shape into the foil.Then holding the foil firmly so it won't move you can begin to rub with a wooden stick or your stylus.This will keep the foil from picking up a double image.If you make a mistake..turn the foil over and rub it out flat again.

As you rub over the embellishment the shape(or image)will appear more detailed.
It start in the middle and work out to the edges so the foil will stretch and not tear.Some of the deeper pieces will do this.If you do get a tear the E-6000 glue won't run through and when you color it no one will see.

This is what your foil should look like when you are done rubbing the image of the embellishment.After adding the glue and letting it dry,you can cut out the shape with scissors or an exacto knife

In the back (or the underneath) side,fill it with clear E-6000 glue.and smooth it to the edges with a tooth pick.
You can also use sillicon calking,but this is not as smooth and is messy.
If you use elmers glue or wood glue after it is dry (this takes a long time) you can pop it out and reuse the foil.Then with the dried glue you can color it also.The dried glue does become brittle and will break.

The wonderful part about all this is ..It is free.
And it is a great way to recycle.
You can use the same embelishment over and over to make your own light weight original piece of art,finished with the colors you choose.
They can be used for jewelry as well.

This is my second Paper Doll.
I made this one for Cynthia she loves paper dolls and victorian things.I put her in side an acrilic frame and back round.The back round wall paper is wall paper,heeheehee.The top is edging that goes around the top of your walls.And the bottom is the left over wall paper that I had used in my own room.I love to use scrap things for art work.One it is cheeper and two why throw away good stuff?The dress is made out of the inside of a cigarette package.
